The Beginning

It's time to change. It's time to see change.

That is the mission of the Focus on the Community Foundation and the work to be change agents for the differently-abled community.

This community has been marginalized and given less than back burner treatment for far too long. The complaints are all too familiar from mothers, fathers and families who have differently-abled citizens within their homes.

They feel left out...
They feel frustrated...
And very often, they do not see a light at the end of the tunnel

If there is a child with cerebral palsy or with down syndrome, what options do they have for education, employment or even everyday activities?

The answer to the latter, is Focus on the Community Foundation. There was a need that was not being met and the Foundation was formed to provide those solutions.

Lack of opportunity is a damning indictment of a society. A community's state of development is judged by how well it treats its most vulnerable members.

The Foundation embarked on a journey to provide activities for differently-abled individuals to live their life as they should. With sport being a unifying agent and with the Foundation director's backgrounds in sport and physiotherapy, it has become a major facet.

Focus Football was therefore born in 2015 to provide a consistent, structured activity that catered to differently-abled children. The football drills are professional, the equipment is top notch and the ground is safely enclosed. However what truly makes every Saturday special, is the joy on the children's faces at being included.

This joy is a special joy. It's a simple thing, with an even simpler formula. Once its captured, it is a powerful motivator to continue on.

Anyone can play and everyone deserves to play. That's why we #Play4Inclusion.

This Foundation and this blog will shine a light on the opportunities for differently-abled members people.
